Ada Kiwanis Club President Tom Kier opened the weekly meeting of the club at noon on Jan. 24 in the Dean’s Heritage Room of McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University in Ada. The following guests were welcomed and introduced to the membership: Robert Alexander, Ohio Northern University; Amy Eddings, Linda Ferguson and Megan Watson of The Ada Herald.

Ridgemont students create future city for competition

MOUNT VICTORY — Seventh-graders at Ridgemont offered their view of what a city in America might look like 100 years from now. The six students – Mason Stuck, Lane Underwood, Landon Newland, Ashtin Elliott, Lily James and Adaline Buckenroth – created a functioning city for the Future City Building competition held Jan. 14 at Columbus State Community College.

ADA — Ada outscored Allen East in all four quarters, including by eight points in the third eight minutes, to pull away for a 59-44 victory in a Northwest Conference girls basketball game Thursday night. The Bulldogs led 13-9 after one quarter and 23-18 at halftime before putting some space between themselves and the Mustangs in the third quarter.

Alger residents learn of plans to replace natural gas lines

ALGER — The streets in Alger will be a mess for a few months, but representatives of Columbia Gas assured residents the inconveniences will not last long and will be worth the wait. Emily Kizer, external affairs specialist for Columbia Gas of Ohio, vowed the streets and lawns throughout the village will be restored to their original condition once the company replaces the aging mains and service lines in the village.

ADA — After reiterating his team’s goals for the game during halftime, Ohio Northern coach Rich Bensman’s Polar Bears came out firing a barrage of threes in the second half against Wilmington, hitting nine long-range buckets on their way to an 86-65 men’s basketball victory Wednesday night. The win keeps the Polar Bears tied with Marietta atop the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 9-2 mark. They are 11-7 overall. The Quakers drop to 2-9, 7-11.
