Ridgemont had a pair of first team selections and Upper Scioto Valley had one on the All-Northwest Central Conference baseball teams released earlier this week. Named to the first team for the Gophers were pitcher Jace McGue and catcher Alex Ramsey.

PIQUA — Kenton’s Chris Deardorff saved his best leap for his last one on Thursday as he finished third in the long jump at the Division III regional track meet to qualify for next week’s state meet. Deardorff had a personal best of 22-0 on his last jump of the finals to vault from the sixth place into the third position.

LEXINGTON — Ben Logan’s Reese Wilcoxon went into Thursday’s Division II regional track meet with the seventh best qualifying toss in the field of 16 throwers. PIQUA — Ben Logan’s Madison Manns will be making the trip to Columbus next week to compete in the Division II state track and field meet. The Raider sophomore cleared 5-1 on her third attempt at the height to finish third in the high jump on the first day of Division II regional competition at Piqua on Thursday afternoon.

Hardin Northern was well-represented on the All-Northwest Conference softball teams as seven Polar Bears were recognized including Quinn Stewart-Evans, who was named the league’s co-player of the year. In addition to Stewart-Evans, Polar Bears selected to the first team were Madison Robson and Shelby Alloway.

GENEVA — Sophomore Maddy Reed earned All-America honors in the women's pole vault to lead a strong performance for the Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team on the first day of the 2017 NCAA Div. III Outdoor National Championships at the SPIRE Institute on Thursday.

The second farm Reds beat the Dodgers 5-3 Thursday night. Leading batters for the Reds were Owen Frey who had a double and 2 singles, Oliver Sneary and Slade Taylor with 3 singles each, Keith Murphy and Raleigh Newman with 2 singles each and Malachi Blankenship and Lucas Klotz with one hit each.

Over the past decade or so, the Kenton High School football team has become known for its dominance during summer 7 on 7 passing tournaments, bringing home trophies from different tournaments nationally. This summer, the Wildcats once again get a chance to test their skills against some of the nations’ best high school football programs when they travel to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the 48-team 2017 Powerade 7 on 7 Invitational to be held July 13-15.
