O-G staves off Lady ‘Cats challenge

OTTAWA — Kenton played Ottawa-Glandorf nearly point for point through the first half of their Western Buckeye League battle against the unbeaten and No. 1 ranked girls Division II team in Ohio on Thursday night. In the second half, the Wildcats didn’t have an answer for the Titans zone defense though as they hit just four field goals over the final 16 minutes – including only one in the third quarter – as O-G pulled away for a 60-49 victory.

She nailed the shot with about 10 seconds left to force overtime, and Pandora-Gilboa escaped Riverdale with a 76-69 victory on Thursday night.

McGUFFEY — The last time the Upper Scioto Valley girls basketball team finished the year with a conference loss was the 2013-14 season. With Thursday’s 62-27 win over Riverside, that streak is safe for another year. Upper Scioto Valley’s win capped the Lady Rams’ third-straight perfect season in the Northwest Central Conference and their fourth NWCC title in as many years.

Dye tallies 20 points in Polar Bears’ victory

DOLA — Hardin Northern outscored Waynesfield-Goshen by eight points in the second quarter and that was the difference as the Polar Bears topped the visiting Tigers 47-39 in a Northwest Central Conference girls basketball matchup on Thursday. Hardin Northern, which moves to 8-12 overall and 3-3 in the NWCC, trailed 11-10 after eight minutes before outscoring the Tigers 12-4 in the second stanza.

ADA — Junior Amy Bullimore posted her second double-double in the last three games to help lift the No. 6-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team over Baldwin Wallace 68-43 on Wednesday night. The Polar Bears remain perfect on the season and improve to 20-0 overall and 13-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 16-4, 9-4.

Allen leads ONU men past Baldwin-Wallace

BEREA — Senior Devon Allen tied a season-high with 27 points, leading Ohio Northern to a 94-76 victory at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night. The Polar Bears (13-7 overall, 11-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) run their winning streak to eight games and remain in a first place tie atop the league standings with No. 15-ranked Marietta. The Yellow Jackets fall to 9-11, 4-9.

KMS girls basketball wins pair

The Kenton eighth grade girls basketball team won a pair of games recently. The Wildcats defeated Marion Pleasant 39-18 on Tuesday. Lindsey Smith led the Wildcats with 10 points, while Makenzie Bays added 8 points. Also for the Wildcats, Kaylin Hildreth and Jenna Manns netted 6 points each, Laney Harpel had 4 points, Mary Heilman and Carly Dearing had 2 points each and Jazlen Hugley had 1 point.
