Area teams eliminated on road

It was a tough opening night of the postseason on the road for several area teams. In Division IV volleyball, Upper Scioto Valley went to Lima Central Catholic and lost in four games.

Elida ends Kenton’s best recent season in overtime

The Kenton boys soccer team was having its best season in recent memory after finishing the regular season with a winning record overall and a .500 mark in Western Buckeye League play. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the season came to an abrupt end Monday night when Elida’s Cade Parker scored with 1:49 left in the first overtime to lift the Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory over the host Wildcats in a sectional tournament contest.

Ada, Otsego locked in tie as game suspended

ADA — When the Ada and Tontogany Otsego girls soccer players took the field Monday night for a first-round sectional contest they figured at the end of the night one team would be celebrating a victory and starting preparations for a sectional final on Saturday against Liberty-Benton.

Raiders upset in playoff opener

BELLEFONTAINE — Indian Lake knocked off host Ben Logan 3-2 in overtime in a Division II sectional tournament contest Monday night. After a scoreless first half, George Kern and Timmy Gerhodlt scored for the Raiders just before the mid-point of the second half to give Ben Logan a 2-0 lead.

WAPAKONETA — The Kenton Middle School girls cross country team won the Western Buckeye League championship Saturday. The Wildcats had four runners finish in the top 10 as they finished 19 points ahead of second-place Celina.

Kenton gave one of its better recent girls soccer performances on Saturday afternoon. But unfortunately for the Wildcats, their defensive intensity seemed to wane for about 10 seconds and Van Buren took advantage.

Gibson, Manns lead Kenton at WBL meet

WAPAKONETA — The Kenton girls cross country team was ninth of nine teams, while the Wildcat boys were 10th of 10 teams at the Western Buckeye League cross country meet at Wapakoneta on Saturday. The Wildcat girls, who were led by Jenna Gibson’s 27th place run (22:00), finished with 227 points.

Raider boys place second in division

BELLEFONTAINE — The host Ben Logan boys cross country team finished in second place in the Mad River division of the CBC conference meet held on Saturday. The team finished with a total of 127 points.
