Riverdale takes advantage of poor shooting by Kenton

Up for a shot

An ice-cold shooting performance in the second and third quarters from Kenton opened a window for Riverdale to take charge and grab the 62-43 win in a girls basketball contest Saturday afternoon. The visiting Falcons outscored the home team 26-12 in the middle two quarters, with the Wildcats converting just one field goal during the stretch.

Kenton girls grab 2nd at big swim meet

MOUNT VERNON — The Kenton girls swim team placed second in the Mount Vernon Small School Invitational held at Kenyon University on Saturday. The Wildcats scored 214 points, second only to Canal Winchester’s 268. There were 39 teams at the invitational.

Raiders hold on to beat Kenton, 62-56

BELLEFONTAINE — Ben Logan led by seven after one quarter, pushed its advantage to 10 at halftime and held on to defeat Kenton 62-56 in nonconference boys basketball Saturday night. The Raiders led 34-24 at halftime. Kenton outscored the host Ben Logan 32-28 in the second half.

Big second quarter lifts Ada to victory

RAWSON — Ada dominated the second quarter to pull away from Cory-Rawson for a 64-43 boys basketball victory on Saturday. The Bulldogs (3-5) outscored the Hornets 26-12 in the second quarter to take a 39-19 lead into halftime.

Ram rally falls just short vs. Van Buren

McGUFFEY — Upper Scioto Valley scored 27 fourth-quarter points Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to rally from an 11-point deficit as the Rams fell 72-70 to Van Buren in nonconference boys basketball. The Rams trailed 54-43 entering the final quarter, but outscored Van Buren 27-18 over the final eight minutes.

Poor start dooms Kenton vs. Wapak

Wapakoneta forced Kenton into 10 first-quarter turnovers in jumping ahead by 15 points seven minutes into Friday’s Western Buckeye League boys basketball contest. It proved to be too big of a hole for the host Wildcats to dig out of as the Redskins rolled to a 61-47 victory. Kenton, which trailed 17-2 after seven minutes, never got closer than 11 points the rest of the game as the Wildcats fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in WBL action.

Edge at line lifts Gophers by Polar Bears

MOUNT VICTORY — A physical contest resulted in a combined 65 free-throw attempts between Hardin Northern and Ridgemont in a boys basketball game on Friday. The Gophers converted 28-of-44 free throws, while the Polar Bears were just 7-of-21, giving the Gophers the edge they needed in a 65-52 victory.

Fourth-quarter run pushes LTC by USV

McGUFFEY — Lima Temple Christian turned a tie game into a seven-point lead over the first 4:15 of the fourth quarter and led the rest of the way Friday night in a 71-63 Northwest Central Conference boys basketball victory over Upper Scioto Valley. Entering the fourth quarter tied at 46, USV and Temple traded baskets, but then the Pioneers scored seven straight points to go ahead 55-48.

Falcons fall one point short at home

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale fell into an early deficit against Pandora-Gilboa on Friday night and came up just short at the end, falling 45-44 in boys basketball action. Pandora-Gilboa led 18-13 after the first quarter, 26-24 at halftime and 37-35 after three quarters.
