LIMA — Kenton senior Dale Oates did something that no Wildcat had done for more than 40 years on Saturday. Oates won the Western Buckeye League title at first singles, becoming the first Kenton player to do that since 1974.

The Kenton baseball team jumped on top of Elida early on, scoring in each of the first three innings, including four runs in the second on the way to an 8-3 Division II sectional win over Elida on Saturday at Kenton.

BLUFFTON — Leaving runners on base almost will always hurt a team. It was no different for Riverdale, but the timing couldn’t have been worse as the Falcons left six runners on base in a 3-2 loss to Bluffton in a Division III sectional semifinal baseball game Saturday.

RAWSON — Cory-Rawson took the lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on to defeat Ridgemont 5-4 in a Division IV district baseball game on Saturday.

BELLEFONTAINE — Ben Logan scored early and played error-free defense Saturday to beat Versailles 5-3 in nonconference softball. The Raiders scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and plated three in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.

ADA — Versailles won both the boys and girls portions of the Ada Invitational track and field meet Saturday. Van Wert finished second on both sides.

WEST LIBERTY — Ben Logan’s Coreen Crosby was named the female MVP of the West Liberty-Salem Invitational track and field meet on Friday night.

McGUFFEY — There were five individuals and one team from different aspects of the sports community inducted into the Hardin County Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

When Ashley Hoy transferred to Upper Scioto Valley for her junior year, the Ram softball team hadn’t won a game in more than four seasons. Hoy, now a senior, has played a large role in helping turn the program around.
