Riverdale gets rematch with Arlington in district semifinals

The Riverdale boys basketball team did something no Falcon team has done since 1987 when it cut the sectional championship net after a 50-28 win over Leipsic on Friday night. Tonight, the Falcons look to add to their tournament success when they open Division IV district play against Blanchard Valley Conference and backyard rival Arlington at Findlay High School.

KANSAS —After splitting their first two matches on Friday, Riverdale’s Miles Frey and Ethan Shane were eliminated from the Lakota Division III district wrestling tournament in the consolation bracket quarterfinals on Saturday. Frey, a senior, was defeated by Western Reserve’s Aidan Fry-Silva by a 16-1 decision in the 145-pound weight class.

LIMA — Facing a 19-point deficit to Perry early in the fourth quarter, Upper Scioto Valley twice cut the lead to just five late in the contest. Despite the 34-point quarter, the Rams fell just short of the comeback as the Commodores were able to hold on to a 71-64 win in Friday’s Division IV boys basketball sectional final.

Northridge’s pressure too much for Raiders

SPRINGFIELD — Ben Logan won the opening tip of its sectional basketball final game against North Ridge on Friday night. That was about the only thing the Raiders won for the first eight minutes of the game as the Polar Bears scored the game first 12 points and cruised to a 21-point lead after eight minutes on the way to the 64-35 victory at Springfield High School.
