LIMA — The Kenton boys tennis team finished eighth in the Western Buckeye League tournament and eighth overall in the league standing this past weekend. The Wildcats were led by their top doubles pair of Ian Lyons and Rocco Longbrake, who finished seventh in first doubles.

Ben Logan was the only area baseball team to earn a No. 1 seed in the district tournament draws that were released on Sunday. The Raiders, 15-3 on the season, took a first-round bye and will host either Graham or Springfield Northwestern in their sectional opener at 5 p.m. May 16. The winner advances to district semifinal play at Urbana at 5 p.m. May 21. Graham and Northwestern play each other at 5 p.m. May 14 at Northwestern.

The 5th annual Polar Bear Legacy Golf Outing is planned Saturday, July 6 at Veterans Memorial Park Golf Course, Kenton. The four-person scramble will tee off at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $50 per person and the event will be limited to the first 25 teams to register. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. that day. The rain date is Sunday, July 7 at 1 p.m.

The Kenton Wildcats brought home a 4-2 victory over Hardin Northern in Thursday’s baseball contest. The Polar Bears scored first with a run in the third inning and added another run in the fifth, but RBIs by Hunter LaRue and Cam Pulfer in the fourth and sixth innings helped the host Wildcats seal the win.

Kenton edged Hardin Northern 5-4 in a non-conference softball game on Thursday afternoon. The fifth inning was key for the Wildcats who scored four runs to erase a 3-1 HN lead.

BELLEFONTAINE — Benjamin Logan plated five runs in the opening inning against Bellefontaine in Thursday’s softball contest, going on to earn the 9-2 Central Buckeye Conference victory. The win improves the Lady Raiders to 20-2 overall, 13-2 in the CBC. The Chieftains fall to 7-12, 7-9.

NORTH ROBINSON — After taking the early 1-0 lead over Colonel Crawford in the top of the first, Riverdale surrendered 13 runs in the next half inning. The deficit grew and proved too much for the Falcons to overcome, falling 16-2 in Thursday’s baseball game.

NORTH ROBINSON — After posting two runs in the top of the seventh, the Riverdale Lady Falcons came up one run shy of tying the contest, falling to Colonel Crawford 4-3 in Thursday’s softball game. Alison Donaugh went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Liviya Benjamin was 3 for 3 and drove in a run, and Alyssa McCloud also picked up an RBI.

Kenton High School senior Abigail Hartshorn (seated, center) signed a letter of intent to continue her education and play tennis at Marietta College. Hartshorn, is pictured with (from left, front) her parents Alberta and Jon Hartshorn; (back) KHS tennis coaches Katie Isenbarger and Bethany Shafer. Abigail plans to major in athletic training.

Kentonites Monty and Spencer Vermillion recently won first place in this year’s 108th Ohio Intercity Bowling Tournament doubles event held in Lexington, Ohio at Lex Lanes. The duo shot a 1,376 actual score and a total of 1,574 with handicap.
