BELLEFONTAINE — Mary Rutan Health announces that Dr. Jason Anane-Sefah, a Mayo Clinic-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand, upper extremity, and general orthopedics, has transitioned from part-time to full-time status at Mary Rutan Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.

This expansion reflects the remarkable growth and strength of the orthopedic practice, as well as the health system’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, specialty care from providers who live and work in the communities they serve.

“Bringing Dr. Anane-Sefah on full-time is a significant step in continuing to meet the needs of our growing patient population,” said Chad Ross, President and CEO at Mary Rutan Health. “With his expertise and dedication, we are able to increase access to orthopedic services, expand appointment availability, and provide greater continuity of care from a trusted, experienced specialist.”

Dr. Anane-Sefah has been serving patients in Logan County for several years while also practicing at other regional facilities. With this transition to full-time status at Mary Rutan, he is excited to now focus his efforts entirely on caring for patients close to home.

“My wife Lila is from Logan County, and together we are raising our children here,” said Dr. Anane-Sefah. “This is our home, and it’s incredibly meaningful to serve the same community that we live in and are raising our family in. I’m grateful for the opportunity to focus fully on helping local patients regain function, reduce pain, and return to the lives they enjoy.”

Dr. Anane-Sefah grew up in Santa Cruz, California, and holds a degree in Neurobiology from Yale University. He earned his Medical Doctorate and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Howard University in Washington, D.C., followed by a prestigious hand, upper extremity, and microvascular fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Prior to joining Mary Rutan, he served as the senior hand surgeon at a regional Level I trauma center in Peoria, Ill., where he cared for both acute injuries and complex degenerative conditions for over a decade. He has also volunteered his surgical expertise internationally at Hope Clinic in Ghana.

His clinical interests include complex distal radius fractures, carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome, wrist arthroscopy, thumb arthritis reconstruction, joint replacement in the hand, nerve injuries, and fracture nonunions. His mission is to help patients return to their pre-injury status as quickly and safely as possible.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Anane-Sefah enjoys spending time with his family, beekeeping, hobby farming, bow hunting, gardening, and serving at his local church.

Mary Rutan Orthopedics & Sports Medicine now features five orthopedic surgeons across its Bellefontaine and Urbana locations. Dr. Anane-Sefah joins full-time orthopedic surgeon Dr. Meaghan Tranovich, who was welcomed to the team in late 2024, alongside experienced physicians Dr. Frank Fumich, Dr. Ryan McNeilan, and Dr. Steven Haman.

Together, the practice provides comprehensive services including sports medicine, joint replacement, trauma care, hip and spine surgery, hand and upper extremity treatment, and general orthopedic care.
