Culture Club meets at Carol McKinley’s home

The Culture Club traveled to Indian Lake on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Members and a guest gathered at Carol McKinley’s home on Indian Lake at Russells Point. A guided tour was given of her beautiful landscaped garden surrounding her home. Then Carol gave an informative presentation on Monarch butterflies and their migration to and from Mexico.

Sharing wisdom: Tolerance

When you hear the word “tolerance” what comes to mind? It certainly gets tossed around a lot. An article I read recently gave the definition of this: true tolerance is a willingness to acknowledge the beliefs of others in spite, not in absence, of disagreement.

The Amish Cook: Daniel’s birthday supper

Last week we talked about the little fishing trip we had for Daniel’s birthday. Now, this week, I’ll fill in a bit about his birthday supper. At our house, whoever is having a birthday gets to choose his or her meal. Daniel chose one of our all-time summer favorites, Chalupas. Now if you’ve never had a chance to give them a try, today may be your chance. It’s like going out in the garden, combing it and coming to the house with all sorts of goodies then laying it right on top of a deep-fried tortilla along with some fried burger and cheese.
