Hardin Northern collects 18 hits in victory over Elgin

DOLA — Hardin Northern collected 18 hits and scored runs in five of the six innings it batted on the way to an 11-5 Northwest Central Conference baseball victory over Elgin on Wednesday. 

The Polar Bears plated four runs in the first inning, two in the second and one in the third as they took a 7-2 lead. After they added two more in the fifth frame, Elgin scored three times in the sixth to get within 9-5 before the Polar Bears scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. 

Nevin Robson had three hits with a double and two RBIs and Xander Wilson had two hits and a pair of RBIs to lead Hardin Northern at the plate. Bo Bame and Nolan Hopson both added three hits and an RBI and Brandon Henicle had two hits with an RBI. 

Preston Wykes chipped in with two doubles and Zach Spearman had two hits with a double. 

Robson had four stolen bases in the game. Bame and Hopson both added two thefts. 

Wilson threw 5 1/3 innings on the mound to earn the pitching win. He allowed five hits and walked six batters with four strikeouts. 

Preston Wykes threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief. He allowed two hits and struck out a batter.

The Polar Bears are scheduled to travel to Upper Scioto Valley on Friday.
