Flowers only victor as Kenton girls tennis falls to O-G Posted on September 15, 2017 0 OTTAWA — Kelsey Flowers, playing a rare match at No. 2 singles, was Kenton’s only victor as the Lady Wildcats fell to Ottawa-Glandorf 4-1 in a Western Buckeye League tennis match on Thursday. Flowers, who moved from the No. 3 to No 2. spot when top singles player Mykaela Schriber missed the match due to illness, defeated OG’s Emma Schmiedebusch in three sets 6-7 (7-4), 6-3, 10-3 (super tiebreaker). “Kelsey and all of our singles stepped up tonight with our regular number one singles player Mykaela was out due to sickness,” Kenton coach Katie Brim said. “I proud of the calmness and maturity I saw from Kelsey on the court. She believed in herself and had very good net play and angles. She played smart, and is beginning to really peak at the right point in the season. I’m very proud of her.” In other singles play, Kenton’s Abby Hartshorn played first singles and fell to Mariah Schroeder 6-3, 6-0. Kenton’s Lexi Phillips moved into the third singles position and was defeated by OG’s Lindsey Schneeg 6-3, 6-1. The doubles team of Alex Haushalter and Olivia Brown of Kenton lost in three sets to OG’s Chelsea Padroski and Addison Schmiedebusch 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 and Kenton’s second doubles pair of Abby Oberlitner and Kayce Sherman was defeated by Alysha Verhoff and Kerri Ellerbrock 6-1, 6-2. “I was very impressed with our net play at the doubles positions,” Brim said. “First doubles did a really nice job the second set and had some great points and games throughout their entire match. Each set the level of tennis play was raised, and our girls lost some close games at deuce. I believe our first doubles will break through soon with a win if they continue to play this level of tennis.” Kenton hosts Elida on Monday.
