In the 1980s, during my first four years in ministry, I learned to expect a little pre-Christmas ritual. A lady named Florence, who had been widowed for many years, would bring two wrapped packages to the church office.

Kenton Full Gospel Church Bread of Life Food Pantry will have a change in food distribution times in November and December due to the holidays. The large distribution is usually on the fourth Tuesday, but during the holiday season, it will be on the third Tuesday.

The churches of the Dola-Dunkirk area are presenting a Community Thanksgiving Gathering at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Hardin Northern Community Center on Main Street in Dunkirk. There will be a selection of seasonal music offered by the community choir, along with a timely message and other reminders of the Thanksgiving season.

The Mount Victory Church of Christ will be having a Veterans Recognition Service on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. The service will take the time to honor veterans for their service, with a meal to follow.

Kenton Full Gospel Church is planning Christmas caroling at the nursing homes on Dec. 17. Practice for the caroling will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16.

The 20th Veterans Recognition Service at the Alger First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Monteville St., has been planned for 10 a.m. this Sunday. The featured speaker will be Bob Weinberg, president of Flag City Honor Flight and member of the Society of the Honor Guard – Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Kenton First United Methodist High School Youth Group collected nearly three shopping carts full of items for the Neighborhood Opportunity Center during its annual Can Food Drive on Sunday, Oct. 22.
