ADA — A forum to address “Repopulating our workforce: Labor initiatives to address our drug crisis” will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 in the Dicke Hall Forum at Ohio Northern University. The event is free and open to the public.

This fall two men are each hoping to become the newest Hardin County commissioner. Tim Striker brings decades of experience as a public servant and an elected official. Ron Eastman has a professional lifetime in the private sector that allows him to bring business and experience in the environmental world to the job.

When the Grove Cemetery Board of Trustees asks voters to continue a property tax levy it is as much an educational campaign as a levy renewal effort. That is the case again this year as the cemetery seeks renewal of a 1 mill levy for five years on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The Hardin County Board of Elections will start processing absentee ballots at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 in the board office in the courthouse.

Voters were given the chance to hear the positions of many of the candidates whose names will appear on the ballot on Nov. 6 during a town meeting at the Jacob Parrott Service Center in Kenton on Tuesday night.

Candidates for Hardin County commissioner offered their views on a variety of issues during a town hall meeting sponsored by Hardin County Talks on Tuesday evening at the Jacob Parrott Safety Center (sheriff’s office) in Kenton. Republican Tim Striker and Democrat Ron Eastman agreed on several views on the future of the county, but saw thing differently on other issues.

The Hardin County Board of Elections has announced its hours for those casting early or absentee ballots this fall. Early voting started Wednesday at the board's office in the basement of the courthouse.

Voters in Hardin County will have until Tuesday to register to vote in the Nov. 6 general election. Board of Elections Director Sandra Bookmyer said the office will be open until 9 p.m. on Oct. 9 to allow residents to register.

Thirteen local issues will be decided at the polls in the Nov. 6 general election. Wednesday was the filing deadline. Among them are two countywide proposals and many renewals of existing levies.

As Fran DeWine visited Hardin County on her statewide tour Monday morning, she said she was impressed with the veterans’ banners on the streets and beauty of the courthouse.
