McGUFFEY — Upper Scioto Valley was four seconds away from a regulation girls basketball win on Thursday night when Riverside’s Shelby Giles nailed a three-pointer to tie the game. It took double overtime, but the host Rams finally managed to outlast the Pirates, outscoring them 7-1 in the second OT period to claim a 47-41 Northwest Central Conference win.

FOREST — The village of Forest will celebrate the third annual Charlie Brown Christmas on Sunday, an event that has expanded from its humble beginnings. In 2014, recalled organizer Becky Taylor, the village’s Community Improvement Corporation was looking for ways to promote its downtown businesses for the Christmas holidays.

When his deputies approached Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart about growing facial hair during No-Shave November, he balked at the idea. But his wife, Tammy, suggested he not dismiss it quickly.

McGUFFEY — A 21-point halftime deficit proved too much for the Upper Scioto Valley girls basketball team, which fell to Bluffton 71-49 on Tuesday night. With just one full-time returning starter in Kaycee Carroll and several new faces in starting roles for the Lady Rams (0-1), led by first-year head coach Travis Donley, the game proved a learning experience for the team.
