UPPER SANDUSKY — By official decree and proclamation, Saturday was named an honorary holiday in Upper Sandusky in honor of a 3-year-old Kenton boy. June 24, 2017 will forever be known as Ashtyn Thacker Day. Ashtyn was honored by Upper Sandusky Mayor Scott Washburn at a celebration of Walmart Distribution’s Heart to Heart program Saturday.

The last house in Kenton’s Wharton Park was leveled on Monday afternoon. Workers from Rose Farms took little time in razing the structure at 380 S. Leighton Street near the park’s entrance.

The Kenton High School football team finished first out of 40 teams competing at the West Virgina University 7 on 7 tournament this past weekend. The Wildcats beat Martinsburg High School, which was the West Virginia large-school state champion last fall, in the championship game.

Dom Tiberi had spoken to Kenton High School juniors and seniors in late April to spread “Maria’s Message” about the importance of being safe drivers and to avoid distractions.

A crime victims bill of rights amendment in Ohio is a step closer to being on the November ballot. The group Marsy’s Law for Ohio submitted more than 560,000 signatures in favor of the proposed constitutional amendment to the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office on Thursday.
