Fireworks are slated to light up the sky over the Hardin County Fairgrounds on Thursday night in the annual Freedom Celebration display. Under the direction of lead pyrotechnician Mike Comstock with his 16-member crew, more than 1,200 shells will be fired skyward. There will be close to 400 in the main show ranging from 1 to 8 inches and 850 in the finale with shells from 2 to 8 inches. Weather permitting, the display is set to begin at 10 p.m.

Mount Victory suffered tree and property damage in a number of areas on Tuesday afternoon after a strong storm blew through the town around 5:30 p.m. Pictured is a 2008 Mustang owned by Jeff Hilyard that was totaled after a large tree fell on it during a thunderstorm.

ADA — The Ada Village Council now officially has a Technology Committee to remain focused on the village’s cyber security. At its regular council meeting Tuesday night, Councilman Ken Lauria presented the idea to council after bringing forward his concerns of cyber security at previous meetings.

The Kenton Times will not publish a newspaper on Thursday, Independence Day, to allow our employees to enjoy the holiday with their families. Regular publication of the Times will resume on Friday.

Hardin Memorial Hospital has embarked on a new renovation project that will enable it to expand its infusion services to include chemotherapy. The infusions will take place in a brand new state-of-the-art infusion area located in the Outpatient Department on the 2nd floor.

Paving of Kenton streets that had asphalt grinded last week is slated to resume on Wednesday by Bluffton Paving, announced Burl Helton, public works superintendent. Scheduled to be paved that day are North Ida Street (between Carey and Kohler), North Market Street (between Columbus and North) and Grape Street (between Columbus and Franklin).

Murray Park on North Cherry Street in Kenton has been added as a new feeding site for the USDA Summer Food Service Program provided by Kenton City Schools. Regina Comstock, cafeteria manager, said serving of free meals started today at the splash pad at the park from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m.

The Hardin County Freedom Celebration 4th of July Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the fairgrounds. Lineup will be at 9 a.m. Participants will head north on Ohio 31 (Main Street) in Kenton to the north side of the courthouse, then take U.S. 68 (Detroit Street) south to return to the fairgrounds.
