Blanchard Township resident Theresa Allen received an honorable mention in the lifetime achievement category from the Ohio Environmental Council during its annual Green Gala on Saturday, Nov. 14 in Columbus.

An on-station report was received of harassment via cell phone and Facebook by a known suspect. The officer issued charges of telecommunications harassment to Tammi R. Fox, 1255 W. North St., and has yet to locate Fox to present her with the citation.

Four people were taken to area hospitals from an early morning fire at the Scioto Village Apartments in Kenton, but, according to witnesses, things could have been much worse if not for the heroic acts of some residents. Kenton Fire Chief Russ Blue said his department was called to the apartment complex on the south side of the city at 5:38 a.m. today.

Kenton City Schools thought the $492,000 it received this year was its final reimbursement for the tangible personal property tax program eliminated by the state several years ago. However, a compromise plan being put together by Ohio lawmakers would reduce but extend the reimbursement for another two years, Treasurer Tracy Hiller reported at Monday’s board of education meeting.

St. Rita’s Professional Services broke ground Monday on a new $1 million facility in Ada. Located across from the Ada school on Ohio 81, the new offices are expected to open in April.

McGUFFEY — Each year the Upper Scioto Valley Board of Education awards a lease contract to an area farmer to plant and harvest its farm land. The action is usually a routine item on the board’s agenda. But this year’s lessee has gotten the attention of the residents of Alger.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Multiple projects in the Riverdale School District are reaching their completion. Superintendent Eric Hoffman updated the board on various projects around the district at its regular meeting Monday.

McGUFFEY — The Upper Scioto Valley School District is hoping to secure a grant which will allow students to leave their school career with an advantage in the marketplace. Superintendent Dennis Recker said he has applied for a Straight A Grant to establish a Certified Vision program.

ADA — The Ohio Northern University Center for Democratic Governance and Rule of Law and the College of Law’s Master of Laws (LL.M.) program will establish an Advanced Legal Education Program for Afghan Lawyers.
