ADA — For 48 years, an Ada woman has been teaching a valuable life skill to area youngsters. Sandy Neely, known as “the swimming lady,” was recognized as the Distinguished Citizen of the Year at the 50th Town and Gown Banquet at Ohio Northern University on Monday night.

ALGER — The installation of water meters in Alger is near completion, according to the town’s Board of Public Affairs. Council had given town workers until the end of October to have all 400 water meters in place before the Community Development Block Grant deadline of Jan. 1.

MOUNT VICTORY — The Mount Victory Tree Commission planted a tree for Arbor Day at Henry Martin Park on Oct. 30. Resident Pam Arnold and her sister, Patty, from Ashtabula, met the commission members for the tree planting.

An officer responded to a report of a fight at The Bar, 12890 U.S. 68. An assault was reported at Scioto Village, 1037 S. Main St.

Municipal, township and school board elections, along with local and state issues headline the ballot in Tuesday’s election. Polling hours will run from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

CJ Jordan grew up in a “crafty” family and it’s the reason she continues to make crafts out of recycled items and paint furniture out of her country home south of Kenton. Jordan is the owner of CJ’s Designs.

ADA — Craig Butler, director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), will discuss the agency’s role in protecting the public and the environment in Ohio Northern University’s Dicke Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
