FINDLAY — If first-year Riverdale head football coach Britton Devier was looking for a signature win in his debut season, he found it Friday night against Van Buren at Donnell Stadium in Findlay, defeating the Black Knights for the first time since joining the Blanchard Valley Conference six years ago.

ADA — Despite a seven-touchdown night by quarterback Brandon Hull, the Ada Bulldogs came out on the losing end of a 70-50 offensive shootout with Northwest Conference foe Bluffton in Friday night’s football contest. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-3 overall, 0-1 in the NWC. Bluffton improves to 3-1, 1-0 in the conference.

MOUNT VICTORY — The Hardin County Carcass Show of Champions was held Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Jenkins Meats in Mt. Victory. A group of adults and young people were on hand to hear judge and OSU Meat Judging Team Coach Jake Parkinson discuss the merits of the winning market livestock carcasses from the 2019 Hardin County Fair.

Ada Kiwanis President Joe Ferguson called the club’s Sept. 17 meeting to order at noon in the Dean’s Heritage Room, McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University. Deb Curlis of Beatitudes Ada, was welcome as a guest. The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress. The birthday of member Charles Van Dyne (Sept. 19) was noted.

Commercial truck was traveling north on U.S. 68, when it went off the right side of the road, clipped of a utility pole, went through a home and stopped in the Southside gas station.

BELLE CENTER — Preparing meals is not uncommon for the ladies at Belle Center Presbyterian Church. But this fall their plans go beyond a potluck dinner or an ice cream festival. The church is planning to prepare 10,000 meals for area school children who might otherwise go hungry.

Bryce Ellis headed the ball into the net with less than four minutes left in the game to lift Kenton to a 2-2 tie with St. Marys in a Western Buckeye League boys soccer contest on Thursday. The game-tying goal came when Ellis, who was stationed in front of the left post, was able to get his head on a corner kick by Reed Cook that sailed his direction.

Wapakoneta defeated Kenton in three sets 25-17, 25-20, 25-17 in a Western Buckeye League volleyball match on Thursday night. Laney Harpel had 13 assists and 5 digs for the Wildcats. Lacie Nichols and Chesney Moore added 8 and 6 digs, respectively.

In the early morning hours of April 21, 2018, firefighters from throughout the area battled four blazes at once in the southwestern portion of Kenton. A vacant home and a mobile home were heavily damaged, but Gladys Adkins lost 48 years of memories when her home was totally destroyed. Adkins narrowly escaped with her life after waking in the night and seeing smoke and fire.

ADA — The 34th annual Harvest and Herb Festival in Ada is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on Main Street in the village. Sponsored by the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, it will offer more than 150 craft vendors, a kids’ area, parade, crowning of a festival queen and many food booths.
