Defiance defeated Kenton 53-19 in a Western Buckeye League wrestling dual match on Monday night. The Wildcats had three wins on the mat in the match as Carter Bays defeated Dominic Tracy by pin in 2:50 in the 152-pound bout.

MOUNT VICTORY — The Ridgemont Public Library serves both the Mount Victory and Ridgeway areas, and Beccy Ramsey has been a member of that community for 40 years. Originally of Rushsylvania, Beccy has now been with the Ridgemont Public Library for three decades, currently in her fourth year serving the community as the library’s director.

BELLEFONTAINE — Ben Logan took control in the first quarter on the way to a 59-38 victory over Graham in a Central Buckeye Conference contest on Saturday. The Raiders led 18-8 after eight minutes and 32-23 at halftime before outscoring the visitors 27-15 in the second half.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale overcame a slow start to pull away in the fourth quarter for a 63-57 victory over Miller City in a non-league boys basketball game on Saturday. The Falcons, trailed 21-15 after eight minutes before outscoring Miller City 13-12 in the second quarter and 15-11 in the third quarter to get within 44-43.

ALLEN CENTER — A visitor to the small hamlet of Allen Center in northern Union County would no doubt see it as a sleepy community with little excitement. The guests would hardly notice anything unusual about a farmhouse near the center of the houses with a pole barn off to the side.

It has only been a month since Sharon Huston took over leadership as director of the Hardin Hills Health Center in Kenton, but in that short time, she said, she has found a home. Caring for senior citizens is something Huston has done professionally for more than 40 years as a nurse and as an administrator.

With air temperatures were approaching 10 degrees below zero with a wind chill of 30 below zero on Wednesday morning, it hurt just to step out the front door. Because of the frigid temperatures, many area businesses, schools and activities were closed or canceled.
