The One Hit Wonders won the 2017 Kenton Adult Co-Ed Softball League championship by winning the league tournament recently at Home Run Memorial Park.

The Kenton High School class of 1955 met on Saturday, July 15 at Henry’s Restaurant for its 62-year class reunion and 80th birthday party with 26 class members and 15 guests present. Gloria Leech and Shirley Bushong were in charge of greeting, registration and name tags.

This weekend, Hardin County will pay tribute to John H. Smick, the final Civil War veteran to die from the community. But as Prosecutor Brad Bailey addresses the crowd gathered for the service at 10 a.m. Saturday in Grove Cemetery, he not only will honor Smick’s dedication and devotion to preserving the Union, but also his service to the community after he returned home.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire that destroyed a Kenton home on Thursday night. Kenton Firefighters were dispatched to the home at 723 W. North St., owned by Dale Albert, 818 W. North St., at 10:08 p.m. on Thursday, with heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the home.

Plenty of free fun is on tap during the annual Kenton Kids Day at Wharton Park on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Mayor Randy Manns said there will be “tons of activities” for kids, including some new attractions.
