VANLUE — The Ridgemont softball team started off its season on a strong note Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from Vanlue 26-1, 19-17. Priscilla Howland led the way for the Gophers in game one collecting four hits including two homes runs and a double with eight runs batted in.

TIFFIN — Senior Kirstel Lightel threw a 3-hit shutout to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a doubleheader split at Heidelberg on Saturday afternoon at Fran's Field. The Polar Bears (11-3 overall, 1-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) won the opener 3-0 behind Lightel's 12-strikeout shutout.

ADA — The Ohio Northern baseball team fell 8-6, 10-3 in a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference contests against Heidelberg on Saturday afternoon at Wander Field. The Polar Bears fall to 10-6 overall and 0-2 in the OAC, while the Student Princes improve to 12-3, 2-0.

ASHLAND — Carrol Pauley of Kenton is a member of Ashland University's Track and Field team. Pauley, a freshman, competes in throwing for the Eagles.

The spring league at Veterans Memorial Park Golf Course will be moved to Monday evenings beginning on April 9.

The Kenton High School gymnasium floor and stands were packed to the brim on Saturday during the Division V, VI and VII state powerlifting meet, which saw students athletes from high schools all across Ohio representing their schools.

ADA — Ohio Northern junior Ryan Bruns was named 2nd Team All-America in men's basketball for 2018 in voting conducted by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and D3hoops.com. Bruns also was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year and First Team All-Great Lakes Region this season.

Alex Ramsey, a 2017 graduate of Ridgemont High School, was named the Player of the Week for the National Club Baseball Association. Ramsey plays for the University of Nebraska Club Baseball Team. Information can be found at clubbaseball.org.              

The Hardin County YMCA Sea Dragons swim team has its first zone qualifier in two years. Claire Kemmere will be moving on to the Great Lakes YMCA Zone Championship meet in Geneva, Ohio at the SPIRE Institute this Saturday and Sunday.
