Falcons edge Liberty-Benton in hard-fought sectional final

MOUNT BLANCHARD — There were more hard tackles than hard shots and the rain made completing passes difficult at times, but in the end that didn’t matter to the Riverdale boys soccer team. The Falcons scored the lone goal of the game Saturday night to defeat Liberty-Benton 1-0 in a Division III sectional final.

Morris leads Kenton at districts

OTTAWA — Kenton’s cross country season came to an end Saturday at a Division II district race. The Wildcats’ highest finish came in the girls race where Carrie Morris was 21st in 21:53.6.

The Bath Wildcats couldn’t have drawn up a better script on Friday night. The Allen County Wildcats controlled the ball for twice as many plays as Kenton – rushing for 402 yards on 65 carries – as they pulled away for a 34-0 win in Western Buckeye League football action.

DOLA — With the home crowd cheering them on, the Hardin Northern defense came up big when it mattered most against the Perry Commodores on senior night. Leading 20-18 with under a minute to go Friday night, the Polar Bears sealed the win when they forced an incomplete pass on a two-point try that would have tied the score.

Rams fall short in key contest against Fort Loramie

McGUFFEY — For the first 10 minutes of Friday’s key football contest between Upper Scioto Valley and Fort Loramie, things couldn’t have gone much better for the Rams. It was the final 38 minutes that cost USV in a 16-12 loss to Fort Loramie that damaged the Rams’ hopes of qualifying for the postseason and winning a Northwest Central Conference title.
