The Kenton High School Cross Country team will be hosting an alumni race at 8 a.m. Saturday at Kenton High School. The race is free to all current Kenton cross country runners and any alumni that participated in the cross country program in the past (Donations will be accepted).

Kenton Middle School volleyball tryouts will be from from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. today and Friday and 3 from 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday at KMS. Any student-athlete wishing to try out must have a current physical. Physical forms may be turned in the first day of tryouts.

The eighth annual “Tee Off for a Cure” ladies golf scramble was held at Memorial Park Golf Course on Sunday, July 28 with 68 ladies participating in the event. The course was decked out in pink including tees, flags, and ribbons painted on the front of the greens.

Peyton Miller, 4, takes a shot at the goals during the Kenton High School boys soccer camp on Tuesday. The camp, for youth between the ages of 4 and eighth grade, is being conducted by the Kenton High School coaches and players.

Two Kenton girls were crowned champions at the Ohio Elks State Soccer Shoot, held July 27 at Kids America Sports Complex in Coshocton. Abby Schlegel took first place in girls Under 8 and Ruby Styer was first in the girls Under 14 brackets. Both earned the right to compete against youngsters from six states at the Elks Mid-Atlantic Regional Soccer Shoot in March, 2020 in York, Pennsylvania.

Pictured are participants in the Kids Day Fishing Tournament held at France Lake on Saturday. Each of the 30 kids received a prize of a fishing pole or a tackle box or candy bars, as well as a $1 per fish caught.

The weekly winner in the Tuesday Senior Leagues was Doug Camper. There was a two way tie between Duane Davis and Norm Newman. With his victory this week, Doug Camper crept closer to the leader, Norm Newman. Doug Roberts remains in third place. There was a three way tie for the skills prize between Duane Davis, Doug Cannode and Dave Jessee.

The Trophy Bassmasters continued their 2019 fishing season with a trip southwest to Lake Loramie near Minster. Sixteen anglers competed for 8 1⁄2 hours each searching for the five biggest bass to bring to weigh in. A total of 36 keeper bass of at least 12” that weighed 57.78lbs were weighed and released. For the fifth tournament in a row, John Clark of Findlay claimed the top position. Clark had a five bass limit at 10.58 pounds for the win. Boyd Downey of Kenton finished 2nd with 9.36 pounds in five fish. Don Kraft from Alger brought in five bass totaling 7.87 pounds to finish third.

The Kenton High School boys soccer program will be hosting its annual alumni game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. Alumni are asked to bring a white and red t-shirt. Contact coach Bartlett or Coach Martin with any questions.
