MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Mark Gillfillan 5k Memorial Run/Walk will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 22 at Riverdale School. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m.

There will be a meeting today at 6 p.m. at the Kenton High School practice soccer fields for any incoming seventh or eighth grade Kenton Middle School boy interested in playing soccer in the fall. Ron Johnson of Dunkirk had a 101-yard hole-in-one on Hole 6 at Cherokee Hills Golf Course in Bellefontaine on Wednesday, May 16. The shot was witnessed by Doug Ashba, Bill Ward and Stan Macke.

The second farm Indians defeated the Padres 10-4 on Monday. Leading the way for the Tribe was Domanic Sloan who had a home run and a double.

John Hatcher was the weekly winner in the Tuesday Senior League with Doug Camper and Paul Hatcher tied for second place. Jerry Fraber remains the overall leader, but Paul Hatcher has moved into second place and John Hatcher is third.

COLUMBUS — Ben Logan high jumper Madison Manns made it to the Division II State track and field meet a year ago and while clearing 5-0, placed 13th and failed to earn a medal. Her return appearance on Friday went much better.

COLUMBUS — Kenton senior Lauren Johnson and her mom made a deal going into Friday’s Division II state discus competition that a third place finish would earn her a $50 state meet sweatshirt. It proved motivation enough for Johnson as she earned that sweatshirt, placing third by setting a personal and KHS record with a throw of 139 feet 3 inches.

The major league Braves defeated the Indians 15-1 in Kenton Little League competition on Friday. Hitters for the Braves were Cohan Cook with a triple and an RBI, Carson Bash with a double, a single and four RBIs, Ethan Rall with two singles and two RBIs, Anthony Hunt with two singles, and driving in a run with a single were Kyle Thrush, Austin Plymale and Joel Bowman.
