ADA — Ohio Northern senior Emily Richards has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Div. III Female National Track Athlete of the Year for her efforts during the 2018 outdoor season.

The second farm Blue Jays defeated the Reds 3-1 on Thursday. Hitters for the Reds were Slade Taylor with a home run and a single; Izic Bixler with a double and Zayden Kennedy, Kellen Good, Addy Hites, Grace and Landon Miller all with singles.

The Kenton High School tennis program will be conducting a pair of camps this summer aimed at youth from kindergarten through eighth grade. The Kenton Kids Tennis Camp, for those who have completed grades K-5, will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on June 14, 15, 21 and 22.

RUSHSYLVANIA — The 14th annual Rushsylvania Rockets 5K is at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. The race begins and ends at the Rushsylvania United Methodist Church, 152 Rush St.

The major league Braves defeated the Angels 4-3 in Kenton Little League action on Monday. Hitters for the Braves were Austin Plymale with a triple and a single; Bill Wilkinson with two singles and Kyle Thrush with a single.

McGUFFEY — In her first appearance in the state track meet two years ago as a sophomore, Megan Carey needed a little help when a competitor fell in the finals to finish in eighth place in the 100 meter hurdles. Last year, Carey improved to fourth in the event during her second trip to the state meet.

RIDGEWAY — As a freshman, Meadow Cromer surprised many when she qualified for the Division III state track meet in the pole vault. Four years later, it is no surprise that the Ridgemont senior will be competing in the state meet for a fourth time when she takes to Jesse Owens Stadium for the pole vault competition at 1 p.m. Friday.

In the Senior League there was a tie for first place in the weekly winner round between Jerry Fraber and Karl McNeal. Dick Battles came in third. Jerry Fraber increased his lead over Ted Williams and Roger Crowe moved up into third place.

PIQUA — With a regional championship up for grabs, Kenton High School’s Lauren Johnson saved her best throw for last on Saturday morning. The Wildcat senior unleashed a throw of 135-7 on the final throw of the discus competition to edge Milton Union’s Beyonce Bobbitt and claim first place at the Division II regional track meet in Piqua.

MASON — After winning his first two matches on Friday, Ada senior Zach Beaschler dropped his last two to place fourth in the Division III state tennis tournament singles bracket. His first match against Niyanth Reddy of Dayton Miami Valley didn’t get off to a good start as he lost the first set 6-1.
