Kenton boys tennis team sees some success at WBL tournament Posted on May 9, 2026 0 LIMA — The Kenton boys tennis team had some success in the Western Buckeye League tournament Thursday at the University of Northwestern Ohio courts in Lima. Kenton’s top singles player Garraden Wirbel didn’t play in the tournament due to a school field trip. That bumped Kenton’s Seth Spencer up to first singles. Spencer topped Josh Schoen 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. Spencer lost 6-1, 6-0 to Jake Ackroyd in the second round. Spencer then fell 8-1 to Noah Compton and finished in eighth place after withdrawing from his match with Zach White. Kenton’s Leighton Wirbel defeated Cole Story 6-2, 6-3 in his first match at second singles. In the second round, Leighton Wirbel was swept 6-0, 6-0 by Mason Latham. Leighton Wirbel lost 9-7 to Colton Radar in the backdraw, then he beat Diego Rivera 8-3 to finish in seventh place. Kenton’s Brian Rogers defeated Levi Gerencser 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at third singles. Rogers fell 6-0, 6-0 in the second round to Chase Carpenter. Rogers lost both of his backdraw matches 8-3 to finish in eighth place. Kenton’s Cale Harshfield and Wyatt Campbell lost 6-4, 6-4 to Aiden Latham and Sailor Drury at first singles. In the backdraw, Harshfield and Campbell lost 6-1, 6-0 to Kellan Harsha and Will Wittenmyer. They still need to play the second backdraw today. Kenton’s second doubles duo of Ethan McNamara and Tate Ketcham placed eighth after dropping three tough battles. They fell 6-2, 6-1 to Noah Jostpile and Zane Soloman in the first match. In the backdraw, they were beaten 8-5 by Bentley Webb and Braycen Wright. The second backdraw against Finn Tingle and Cameron Lime ended up with the same score, 8-5.
