USV earns highest playoff seed in area

Four area boys basketball teams begin postseason play on Feb. 23 in the Division IV Wapakoneta District. At No. 5, Upper Scioto Valley is the highest-seeded local team. The Rams open the postseason against No. 11 Waynesfield-Goshen at 8 p.m. at Allen East High School. The winner of that contest will take on third-seeded Fort Recovery on Feb. 26.

Ada has two NWC champs

PAULDING — Ada had two Northwest Conference wrestling champions Saturday as it finished the NWC meet in sixth place as a team. Bulldog sophomore Chase Sumner had only one close match as he dominated the field at 132 pounds.

Frey wins BVC title

ARCADIA — Riverdale’s Wayne Frey captured the 132-pound championship, taking a 6-4 decision against Cory-Rawson’s Isaiah Colvin on Saturday at the Blanchard Valley Conference wrestling championships.

Mendoza leads KHS wrestling

ST. MARYS — Kenton’s day got off to a rough start Saturday at the Western Buckeye League wrestling tournament when the Wildcats found out that two of their top wrestlers would not be competing for a WBL title.
