About a year ago, Kenton High School athletic director Mike Leddy sat down with the Kenton Athletic Boosters and community business leaders to discuss the needs of the district’s athletic programs and ways of making the Wildcats more competitive in the Western Buckeye League.

When guests visit the Kenton Toy Collectors Cast Iron Toy Show at the Sullivan-Johnson Museum in Kenton, they normally are expecting to see any additions to one of the most extensive collections of Kenton Toys in existence. But when the collectors and the curious attend the fifth annual show on Saturday, in addition to newly included trains and toys, they will see some of the cast brass items which were made at the Kenton Lock Company in the late 1800s.

An EMT from BKP looks over a FedEx delivery truck that ended up in a small wooded area off County Road 144, just east of Hepburn, on Thursday. According to the report, the unidentified FedEx driver told deputies he was forced off the roadway by a red pickup truck, which continued to flee the scene to the east after the FedEx vehicle crashed into the trees.

LIMA — The Kenton tennis team is guaranteed two top four finishers after the first day of the Western Buckeye League tournament on Thursday. Both No. 1 singles player Kyle Goodin and No. 2 player Kenji Kobayashi earned quarterfinal victories to advance to Saturday’s semifinals.

ADA — An afternoon house fire in Ada has sent one person to jail for allegedly operating a meth lab. According to a press release from Ada Police Chief Michael Harnishfeger, Karen Troglin, of 409 N. Main St., Ada, was taken into custody following an investigation and faces charges.

A commercial truck lost a battle with gravity Wednesday as it traveled north on Detroit Street in downtown Kenton. The incline in the road caused the empty containers in his trailer to shift.

Logan Austin, 14, of Kenton, said, “This is amazing” several times Wednesday afternoon as he took a virtual reality tour of The Night Cafe, a painting by Vincent van Gogh.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Leipsic took advantage of two Riverdale errors and a passed ball to plate four runs in a 5-0 win over the Falcons in a Blanchard Valley Conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons, who fall to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in the BVC, outhit the Viking 6-4 but were not able to push a run across the plate.

Kenton High School students on Tuesday erected a cross and established a memorial on County Road 60, south of Dunkirk, complete with soccer balls, to Layton Rogers, a sophomore at KHS.
