A decision on who will become the new chief of the Kenton Fire Department is getting closer. Three firefighters vying for the post all passed the written civil service exam administered April 11 by the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association.

The Downtown Revitalization Committee will meet at 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 26 in the conference room at the Kenton Municipal Building to finalize details for the downtown spring cleanup on April 30.

A report was taken of a broken fence at Rick’s Auto Sales, 920 W. Lima St. Upon review of the security video, a shirtless man was observed on a bicycle running around the west drive of Westview Estates and acting reckless.

Area residents are being asked to discard their unused and outdated medications at three locations in Hardin County during Drug Take Back Day on Saturday. With the collections slated from 9 to 11 a.m., participants can stay in their cars as volunteers and law enforcement officers take back the pharmaceuticals, prescription drugs, liquid medications, household pet medications, medicated lotions and sunscreens at parking lots.

More food options are planned with the return of the Eats on the Street Friday Night Food Truck Fest, set for Friday, June 24 in downtown Kenton. Ten food trucks have been confirmed so far, according to organizers with the Kenton Historic Courthouse District Committee (HCD), part of the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance.

ADA — When classes begin in Ada next fall, a new group of students will enter the district’s halls for the first time. The board of education agreed Tuesday evening to start a preschool program beginning next year.

ADA — The Ada School District has been invited to join other area schools in the expansion of the Straight A Grant. Upper Scioto Valley, along with Indian Lake and Fairlawn school districts, were the participants in the pilot program which connects the schools with businesses and higher education to train students for the work force.

The Hardin County Community Foundation will award $123,541 at its annual celebration next month in Kenton. Charles Van Dyne, chair of the grants committee, said 119 grants, five scholarships and two bequests will be funded.

ADA — Contrary to initial plans, the Community Improvement Corporation of Ada will not serve as the village’s energy special improvement district for the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program. PACE is a financing economic and development tool available to the village through the Toledo Lucas County Port Authority which allows for the village and commercial property owners to make energy efficiency and alternative energy improvements and pay for them through a special assessment.
