Doug LaRue, EMT chief of the USV Alger EMS and EMS manager at the Lima Memorial Health System, won the first Krista Ansley McDonald 5K Run on Saturday in Bellefontaine at Mary Rutan Park.

The Kenton girls soccer team beat Upper Sandusky 4-0 early in the season. The Lady Wildcats’ rematch with the Rams on Monday night in a sectional tournament opener did not prove to be quite as easy.

BELLEFONTAINE — After giving up the game tying goal with just under 15 minutes to go in the game, it appeared Benjamin Logan was set to go to extra time with the visiting Urbana Hillclimbers. But with the clock winding down and its offensive pressure mounting, Urbana’s Nick Agerter put home his second goal of the night with 34 seconds to go, sealing the 3-2 sectional semifinal win for his team.

The McGuffey High School Class of 1962 recently held its 56th anniversary reunion at the 235 Grill in Alger. Nine members were present.

After nearly 30 years of pastoring in several different locations all over the state, Doug Flinn is finally back home. For just a little over a year, Doug has been serving as pastor of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, located on U.S. 68 about halfway between Kenton and Dunkirk.

The Hardin Northern kindergarten class went to the farm of Greg and Julie Hites of rural Kenton. They experienced pumpkin carving, learned about the different kinds of pumpkins, gourds and Indian corn.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Balloons were released. Flowers were handed out. And before the start of the Riverdale-Van Buren football game on Saturday, a moment of silence was held. Players from both teams took a knee before kickoff.

COLUMBUS — Sydney Wesson has a two-day total of 169 (82-87) to lead the Ben Logan girls golf team to a seventh place finish of 12 teams in the Division II girls state golf tournament in Columbus on Saturday. Mailiis Simovart added a 178 (91-87) , Leeah Valentine shot a 190 (92-98); Willow Titus a 216 (115-101) and Gabrielle Schmidt a 223 (107-116).
