McCOMB — A poor start offensively ended up costing the McComb Panthers in their Blanchard Valley Conference matchup against Riverdale on Friday night. The Falcons took the lead early and wouldn’t relinquish it on the way to a 55-49 victory, despite the Panthers’ comeback effort.

SYCAMORE — Upper Scioto Valley pulled out a thriller on the mitts of Alyssa Miller. With 2.3 seconds remaining in a tie game and Mohawk inbounding with the full court to go, Miller stretched out her palms, knocked Grace Morehart’s quarterback-style pass down, quickly corralled the ball and layed in as time expired to lift the Rams over the Warriors, 38-36, in a grind-it-out, non-league regular season finale.

ARLINGTON — Arlington’s seniors haven’t lost a game on their home court in more than two years and the Lady Red Devils wanted to make sure it didn’t happen against Riverdale in their final game in the AHS gymnasium on Thursday.

LIMA — The Kenton girls stayed with Bath for eight minutes on Thursday night, leading 14-13 after one quarter of play. The host Wildkittens owned the last three quarters however, as they pulled away for a 58-32 Western Buckeye League victory on Thursday night.

VAN WERT — A fourth quarter rally came up short as Ada fell to Lincolnview 56-52 in a Northwest Conference girls basketball contest on Thursday. Haley Wyss had 24 points to lead Ada, which trailed 47-40 after three quarters before outscoring the hosts 12-9 over the final eight minutes.

ADA — On Friday, Ada’s Klava Katayama will attempt to accomplish something no Bulldog girl has done before as she looks to earn a trip to the state high school swimming championships when she competes in the Bowling Green Division II district meet. And by looking at the rankings going into the meet, Katayama stands a good chance.

For the Kenton High School swim team, there were no expectations of them going into the 2017 sectional meet. However the Wildcats delivered a solid performance when it counted at the sectional meet last Saturday and qualified for five events in the Division II district meet in Bowling Green, which begins at 3 p.m. Friday at the BGSU Recreation Center.

Three area home games are on the slate Friday night as the boys basketball season plays out the second to last week of the regular season. Kenton looks for its second Western Buckeye League win in eight tries when it hosts Bath. The Wildcats, who are 11-8 overall, would secure a winning record with a victory.

WESTERVILLE — No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern survived a late rally from Otterbein to remain undefeated with a 61-59 women's basketball victory on Wednesday night at the Rike Center. The Polar Bears improve to 24-0 overall and are 17-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Cardinals fall to 10-14, 6-11.
