ALMA, Mich. — The Ohio Northern men's basketball team dropped its season opener, 80-72, at No. 14-ranked Alma (Mich.) on Tuesday night. Junior Nate Burger led four ONU players in double figures in scoring with 18 points.

CLEVELAND — Junior center Amy Bullimore scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds to lead the No. 23-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team to an 89-64 victory at Case Western Reserve in the season opener for both teams.

The Junior Wildcats program for boys in grades three through sixth who are interested in playing basketball is underway. The program runs Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Kenton High School gym.

Kenton boys soccer assistant coach Jordy Martin was named the district assistant coach of the year in Division II by the Northwest Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association.

WAPAKONETA — Upper Scioto Valley got off to a bad start Saturday night against Minster in a Division VII, Region 28 semifinal football game. The Wildcats (8-4) returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and scored 21 points in the final 1:34 of the first half to put the game away, going on to a 41-8 victory over the Rams.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale junior forward Gabi Rodriguez was named a second-team All-Ohio pick by the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association on Sunday. Rodriguez led the 12-5-2 Falcons with 39 points on a team-best 15 goals and nine assists.
