Defiance defense quiets Kenton

PAULDING — Kenton scored just two points in the opening quarter of its Division II boys basketball sectional final Friday night against No. 1 seeded Defiance. The quarter set the tone for the remainder of the game as the Bulldogs cruised to a 67-46 win, ending the Wildcats’ season.

CANTON — Mission accomplished. That is the feeling Kenton High School senior Mo Gray left the Division II Ohio Swimming Championships with after swimming to a fifth-place finish and a spot on the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke Friday night.

SHELBY — Wllard made shots at the right times to outlast Riverdale, 58-48, on Thursday in a Division III girls basketball district semifinal. Riverdale shot 16-of-51 (31 percent) from the field and 14-of-23 (61 percent) from the free-throw line. Willard shot 19-of-40 (48 percent) on field goals and 18-of-26 (70 percent) on free throws.

Kenton wrestlers ready for district tourney

Ready for districts

Kenton didn’t have the numbers on the wrestling team this season that first-year coach Ryan Morgan was hoping for, but the Wildcats did a lot with what they had. Kenton started the season with eight wrestlers on the team and four of them will be competing in the district tournament, which starts today at Fostoria High School.
