The Amish Cook: Daniel’s birthday supper Last week we talked about the little fishing trip we had for Daniel’s birthday. Now, this week, I’ll fill in a bit about his birthday supper. At our house, whoever is having a birthday gets to choose his or her meal. Daniel chose one of our all-time summer favorites, Chalupas. Now if you’ve never had a chance to give them a try, today may be your chance. It’s like going out in the garden, combing it and coming to the house with all sorts of goodies then laying it right on top of a deep-fried tortilla along with some fried burger and cheese. Read More

Annual Family Day coming to Carey church CAREY — The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, is continuing the tradition of its annual Family Day on Sunday, Sept. 29. The 11 a.m. Mass will take place in the Basilica. After the Mass, there will be a free lunch served at the Shrine cafeteria. At 1:30 p.m. there will be Devotions along with an outdoor rosary procession around the Basilica with families carrying the statue of Our Lady of Consolation. Read More
