In the 1960s, most enlisted men were sent to fight for their country in Vietnam, but Al Talbert's assignment took him to other destinations with equally important and no less dangerous missions. Talbert, now of Kenton, grew up in the Springfield area, the son of an Army veteran. When he received his draft notice at the age of 19, Talbert decided to enlist in the Army and began a military experience in the intelligence field of the service.

Graduation for Kenton High School’s Class of 2019 is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Field. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be shifted to the KHS gymnasium. Eighteen students have been named to the Honor Court.

DOLA — There were positive things to report to the Hardin Northern Board of Education at Wednesday night's meeting. The finances of the district are solid and academically the students have shown proven growth over the past school year.

DOLA — The Hardin Northern Board of Education took action on several teaching and supplemental contracts at its meeting on Wednesday. The action included accepting the resignation of Steve Wykes as a bus driver and approving him for the substitute list for that position. Wykes has several years of service to the district, noted Superintendent Jeff Price, and had served as transportation director.

The 2019 Memorial Day Parade lineup has been announced by the Hardin County Veterans Service Office. The parade will begin promptly at 10 a.m. leaving downtown, going around the courthouse, traveling along Franklin Street to Grove Cemetery where it will conclude. Following the parade there will be Memorial Day services in the cemetery.

THURSDAY, MAY 23 Ridgemont Board of Education – 5 p.m., conference room

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, the Pleasant Township trustees have postponed their regularly scheduled meeting of Monday, May 27. The trustees will meet on Tuesday, May 28 in the conference room of the Kenton Municipal Building at 6:30 p.m.

An officer was dispatched to 356 Kuert Ave. for a report of a runaway juvenile. While in the Auto Zone parking lot in the 300 block of W. Franklin Street, an officer observed an altercation in the alley next to Jimmy’s Pizza. After an investigation, the suspect, Michael Allen Cunningham, 6562 U.S. 68, was arrested for domestic violence.

It's a wonderful time of the year, with baby birds leaving their nests and learning how to fly. But unfortunately, it's easy for cats to catch the baby birds. This is a great time of year to keep your cat inside, and give the birds a chance to fly.
