The 2018 Hardin County Fair swine show winners were announced yesterday.

In conjunction with the national observance of Women’s Health and Fitness day several groups banded together to improve the lives of women and families in Hardin County. Soroptimist International of Kenton/Hardin County, Hardin Memorial Hospital, and Ohio Northern University Healthwise have partnered to promote a healthy community.

DOLA — As the school improvement director at Hardin Northern, Greg Oliver is responsible for providing another set of eyes for the school’s administration. While school has only been in session for a few weeks, Greg has been on the job since July.

The 2018 edition of the Hardin County Fair started with Monday evening's swine show in the arena. Despite the temperature flirting with 90 degrees, the show arena was filled at the start of the show.

The fair kicks off today with a variety of activities and features the annual High School Band Show after the crowning of this year's king and queen in the grandstand starting at 7 p.m.

Kenton netted three penalty kicks on the way to a 4-1 victory over Riverdale in a physical non-league soccer matchup on Saturday night. The Wildcats improve to 6-0 on the season, while Riverdale is now 2-2-1.

Led by medalist Brady Hipsher, Upper Scioto Valley took first in the 10th annual Bill McClain Family High School Invitational held at Memorial Park Golf Course on Saturday. USV had a team score of 182, followed by Kenton with a 185, Ada with a 202, Riverdale at 209 and Ridgemont at 227.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale Industrial Technology and Engineering team took home the 2018 Best Technology and Engineering Exhibit at the Ohio State Fair.

ADA — A study conducted in Hardin County is getting attention far beyond the state of Ohio and it is the hope of the men who conducted the report that the information collected will have an impact on the opioid crisis globally. Ohio Northern University professors Keith Durkin and Tristin Kilgallon, who are members of the criminal justice faculty, joined with Wade Melton, Director of Programs at the Hardin County Juvenile Court, to study the extensive data available through the court records.

Friends of the Alger Public Library (FrAPL) held their Crockpot Social for the month of August last week at the library. Two teams faced off to see whose knowledge of the book, Pippi Longstocking, along with other vocabulary and spelling challenges, was greatest.
