WAYNESFIELD — The Ridgemont girls won three events and Upper Scioto Valley’s boys claimed two events on the first day of competition at the Northwest Central Conference track and field meet on Thursday at Waynesfield-Goshen.

ONTARIO — After losing to Ontario in the sectional finals last spring, the Kenton baseball team wanted to get off to a quick start in its rematch with the Warriors on Wednesday. The Wildcats did just that, plating two runs in the first inning and another in the second inning before holding off the hosts for a 5-2 win in Division II sectional baseball action.

HARROD — The Riverdale Falcons had their opportunities to capitalize against Allen East, but it was the Mustangs who came up big in critical situations, taking the 7-1 sectional baseball win on Wednesday. The Falcons exit the postseason with a record of 9-12.

After playing doubles the past three years, Kenton senior Kyle Goodin played at No. 1 singles for the Wildcat tennis team throughout most of the spring, finishing fourth in the Western Buckeye League tournament.

DOLA — The Hardin Northern softball team swept a doubleheader from Perry 19-0 and 16-1 on Wednesday to earn a share of the Northwest Central Conference championship.

The 2017 version of the Kenton Wildcat baseball team made history on Tuesday night. When the Wildcats defeated Celina 10-0 in five innings, they not only clinched second place in Western Buckeye League play for the first time in nearly 40 years, but they finished with seven wins in league play for the first time in school history.

Less than two weeks ago, the Kenton softball team needed a five-run fifth inning and then help from a lightning storm in the sixth inning to pull out a one-run win over Ottawa-Glandorf in a Western Buckeye League game.

DOLA — Hardin Northern answered a four-run second inning with 20 runs of its own in bottom half of the frame and cruised from there on the way to a 22-6 win over the visiting Hornets in a softball sectional opener on Tuesday afternoon.

RIDGEWAY — A five-run second inning set the tone early for the Ridgemont baseball team as the Gophers went on to defeat Mansfield Christian 11-0 in a sectional semifinal contest on Tuesday. Leading the way for the Gophers was Cameron Smith who was 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs.
