Area athletes fall short on first day of DIII regional competition

TIFFIN — It was a rough first day for area athletes as no one was able to finish among the top four finishers and earn a trip to state at the Division III regional track meet at Heidelberg University on Wednesday afternoon. Hardin Northern’s Frank McCoy came the closest to earning a trip to state on the first day of competition as he had a leap of 20-3 1/4 to finish sixth in the long jump.

Lady Falcons selected All-BVC in softball

Five Riverdale players were recognized on the All-Blanchard Valley Conference softball teams released on Wednesday. Falcon freshmen Allison Donaugh and Lainie Howell were selected to the first team, while junior Justine Messmer was chosen second team and sophomore Alyson Greer and freshman Brookelyn Walter were both honorable mention.

West Jefferson ends Lady Raiders tournament run at regionals, 7-2

DAYTON — The Ben Logan softball team’s softball tournament run came to an end on Wednesday afternoon as West Jefferson defeated the Raiders 7-2 in the Division III regional semifinals at Wright State University. The Raiders led 1-0 after scoring a first inning run before West Jefferson took control of the game with three runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth frame.

Bulldogs receive NWC honors

A trio of Ada players received honors on the All-Northwest Conference softball teams released on Wednesday. Ada senior Alexis Ennis was chosen to the second team, while classmate Raina England and sophomore Leona Dalton received honorable mention.

Five seniors lead Raiders to first regional game since 2001

BELLEFONTAINE — The Ben Logan softball team will be playing in the regional softball tournament for the first time since 2001 when it takes the field against West Jefferson at 5 p.m. today at Wright State University. And while it should be no surprise the Lady Raiders have had a successful tournament run after going 25-2 this season and winning the CBC’s Mad River Division for the second year in a row, this season’s regional trip is one that has been years in the making for coach Amanda Davis and her five seniors Haley Wilson, Baylie LeVan, LeAnn Regula, Grace Deardurff and Olivia Roose.

The second farm Indians defeated the Marlins 23-8 in Kenton Little League play on Tuesday. Leading the way for the Indians was Domanic Sloan with 3 home runs and a single. Braylen Miller had 2 home runs, a triple and a single; Jayce Bordner added 2 home runs and a single; Nolan Asman had a home run and 2 singles; Tatum Dale and Eliannah Miller had 3 singles each; Brendan Potter had a triple and a single; Solomon Petty, Dakota Hale-Adkins and Emma Kaylor each had 2 singles and Stewart Kaylor and Mya Hunsaker each had a single.
