Bulldogs start strong in softball sectional

ADA — Ada wasted little time taking control, scoring six runs in the first inning on the way to a 11-4 win over Continental in a sectional softball game on Thursday afternoon. The No. 2 seeded Bulldogs (15-8 on the season) advance to district semifinal play where they will play No. 3 seeded Wayne Trace at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elida.

Raiders move on in 9 innings

BELLEFONTAINE — Ben Logan scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning in a 4-3 baseball sectional victory over Springfield Northwestern on Thursday afternoon. Cole Jones, Garrett Dixon and Jacob Powell all had RBI singles for the Raiders, who had 12 hits in the contest.

KHS’s Johnson, Ellis 2nd at WBL track

OTTAWA — Kenton had a pair of second-place efforts on the first day of the Western Buckeye League track meet at Ottawa-Glandorf on Wednesday. On the girls side, the Wildcats’ Lauren Johnson was second in the discus with a toss of 126-6. Van Wert’s Kristen Clay was first (127-5).

Gophers drop tourney games

The Ridgemont baseball and softball teams dropped their sectional final contests on the road on Thursday afternoon. The Ridgemont baseball team lost at top-seeded Seneca East 16-2, while the Lady Gophers dropped their softball contest at Parkway 14-4.

Columbian ousts ‘Cats

TIFFIN — A late-inning Kenton rally fell short as the Wildcats fell to Tiffin Columbian 5-4 in Division II sectional baseball action on Wednesday. After Columbian took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added another run in the second, Kenton came back with three runs in the fifth frame to make it a 4-3.

HN outslugs USV

McGUFFEY — Hardin Northern pounded out 24 hits and overcame nine errors to hold off Upper Scioto Valley 18-16 in a non-league softball game on Wednesday night. The Polar Bears led 4-0 before giving up six runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Errors cost KHS softball

Seven errors proved to be the undoing of the Kenton softball team on Wednesday night as Bellefontaine defeated the Wildcats 10-4 in a non-league softball game. The Chieftains led the entire way, scoring two runs in the first and matching Kenton runs in the second fourth innings with runs of their own in the third and fourth frames.

Bulldogs fall to Fostoria

ADA — Fostoria held Ada to one hit on the way to a 6-0 win over the Bulldogs in Division III sectional baseball action on Wednesday afternoon. The visiting Redmen scored three runs in the first inning and added three more in the sixth inning on the way to the win.

Little League: May 10, 2018

The White Sox defeated the Blue Jays in second farm Kenton Little League play on Wednesday. Hitters for the White Sox were Gavin Sealscott with a grand slam home run and a single and Kayne Bushong, Clay Furr, Xavier Gammon, Braidyn VanMeter, Xander Gammon, Peyton Pogue, Aiden Brown and Tristan Hale.
