By SEAN BLEVINS Times sports editor COLUMBUS — Riverdale’s Kolten Evans has a high standard for himself. The talented sophomore ran a personal record time of 9:43.33 for 10th in the 3200 on day two of the Division III state track and field meet Saturday at the Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. “For some reason I didn’t have a lot of confidence today, but it’s a PR,” Evans said. “That was tiring. It’s really hot. I’ll be back next year. Evans was seventh after the first 400 meters and stayed in seventh for the first mile. He dropped to ninth after 2,000 meters (five laps), then 10th on the following lap and 11th on the next. He was able to slide up a spot to 10th on the final lap, which was his second fastest of any of the laps he ran. “I’ll be upping my miles a lot. I don’t want this to happen again. I’m going to keep the tradition of Riverdale going to state and hopefully inspire other generations to go out for cross country because it benefits yourself and the others around you,” Evans said. Evans is determined to become an All-Ohioan in the future. He was just two spots away from reaching the podium as a sophomore in the two-mile. Whiteoak senior Landen Eyre crossed the finish line in 9:12.46 to edge Steubenville Catholic Central senior Andrew Rohde (9:12.94) for the state title.
