Sheriff wants officers cleared for duty

It may be April or later before local officers involved in a shootout are cleared to return to normal duty. Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart said today he is hoping not to wait that long. Steve Davis, of Kenton, allegedly wounded Police Officer Skyler Newfer on Feb. 6 and exchanged gunfire with one other officer and two deputies before he was shot and died.

Ada Schools shares ‘common language’ vision with county team

ADA — The Ada School District’s development of a “common language” is serving as an inspiration for others to do the same. According to Ada Superintendent Dr. Suzanne Darmer, the County Design Team, a group led by the Auglaize County Educational Service Center that consists of teachers and administrators, is seeking to develop a common language across school districts.

HN dinner planned

DUNKIRK — The monthly supper at the Hardin Northern Community Center will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. There is no charge for the supper but donations are accepted and appreciated.

Falcons run away from Fostoria

LEXINGTON — Shots were not falling for Riverdale early, but eventually the Falcons got so many of them, they started going in and they ran away with a 53-25 victory against Fostoria in a Division III sectional semifinal Wednesday night at Lexington.

Offensive slump costs Polar Bears in loss

HARROD — Holly Wilson carried Hardin Northern offensively in the first quarter of its playoff opener Wednesday night. Marion Local adjusted in the second quarter, held the Polar Bears scoreless for the entire frame to open a big lead, and cruised to a 57-29 victory in a Division IV sectional semifinal.

WORTHINGTON — Kenton Middle School wrestler Noah Eikenbary won an Ohio Athletic Committee District title for the second year in a row Sunday. Eikenbary, seeded No. 1 at 172 pounds, pinned his first two opponents to reach the final.
