McGUFFEY — When Kenton and Upper Scioto Valley meet on the basketball court, one thing that both coaches can usually count on is that, no matter what the records, their teams will be ready to play and it will likely be closely contested to the end.

ADA — Ada couldn’t have hoped for a much better start Saturday night against Hardin Northern in nonconference boys basketball. The Bulldogs (8-8) scored 21 of the first 22 points and controlled the game from there on the way to a 58-39 victory.

DAYTON — Ben Logan freshman Macy Arn led the Raiders to a third-place finish in the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division swimming meet and was named swimmer of the year for her efforts.

Riverdale earned the highest seed among area girls basketball teams at the sectional draw held Sunday. The Falcons (10-8) earned the No. 3 seed in the Division III Shelby District. Riverdale opens play against 12th-seeded Fostoria on Feb. 17 at Lexington High School. The two teams play at 6:15 p.m.

BELLEFONTAINE — Kenton placed fifth Saturday in the girls portion of the Western Buckeye League swim championships. The Wildcats also had a pair of league champions.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale built a big first-quarter lead Saturday against Mansfield Temple Christian, but the visitors slowly chipped away and earned a 66-63 victory in nonconference boys basketball. Riverdale led 23-11 after the first quarter, 39-33 at halftime and 51-49 after three quarters.

BELLEFONTAINE — Ben Logan placed 10th and Riverdale was 13th out of 17 teams over the weekend at the Raider Invite wrestling tournament hosted by Ben Logan. Urbana won the tournament with 161 points. The Raiders scored 78 points and Riverdale had 55.5.

Services for Susie H. Downing will begin at noon Tuesday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Ada by Chaplain BIll Herr. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ada. Friends may call two hours prior to the service (10 a.m. to noon) on Tuesday.
